Workforce Management Software Solutions - making people count

British Gypsum makes light work of workforce management across UK using SMART

British Gypsum, the UK's leading supplier of gypsum-based plastering and part of the Saint-Gobain Group, is continuing to invest in SMART’s time and attendance and absence management solutions in locations nationwide. Currently British Gypsum uses a mix of SMART Time and Attendance, Muster, Absence Reporting and Access Control modules for employees across its manufacturing works. The company has seen efficiency gains through accurate absence management and payroll, compliance with safety legislation and staff duty of care regulations through using SMART’s systems.

Graham McFarland, Project Manager, Business Information Systems at British Gypsum said; “We have been using SMART solutions for a number of years to manage our workforce. They provide an extremely effective way to provide accurate and reliable figures for absence and attendance of staff.

“With the data we can look at an individual’s absence history during their employment, how often or not they are late or absent, to take any necessary action. It is also important that we have the data to meet the governance requirements outlined in our union agreements. The reliability and accuracy of the systems saves us time and helps us meet working regulations in a way that is transparent to staff.”

SMART Time and Attendance automates the collection of timesheets and hours worked, and enables British Gypsum to manage it employees’ annualised hours contracts with more accuracy and visibility. The Muster module provides an automated report of staff clocked into a particular zoned area when the fire alarm triggers an evacuation, complying with Health and Safety regulations. Absence reporting is used to manage annual leave, medical appointments and planned training days across the departments in the different works locations, including warehouse, logistics and production facilities. The reports are also used to monitor sickness trends and reduced hours.

Following the successful deployment of SMART’s solutions, the company is planning to extend their use across two additional sites in the UK, as well as include administration staff at current locations.

Eric Smart, CEO at SMART commented; “SMART specialises in providing solutions for workforce management aimed at helping companies to maximise the performance, productivity and value of their people. For companies like British Gypsum, with many different locations and departments, deploying SMART solutions enables them to manage staff working hours and absence in a consistent, accurate way. Having visible systems to record and track working hours reduces errors in payroll and ensures fair and undisputed absence management processes.”
